What is SPMU Laser Removal?

SPMU laser removal is a method of removing or fading semi-permanent makeup (like eyebrow tattoos, lip blush, eyeliner tattoos) using laser technology. It works similarly to traditional tattoo removal but requires a more delicate approach due to the sensitive facial areas involved and the specific pigments used in cosmetic tattooing.

How Does It Work?

Lasers break down pigment particles in the skin by targeting them with high-intensity light beams:

  1. Laser pulses are absorbed by the pigment.

  2. The pigment heats up and shatters into tiny particles.

  3. These particles are gradually removed by the body’s lymphatic system.

  4. Multiple sessions are needed to fully break down and fade the pigment.

Special Considerations for SPMU

  • White/Beige/Pink pigments (e.g., in lip blush or correction tattoos) can oxidize (turn dark gray/black) upon first laser contact due to metal content. This is usually temporary but may require more sessions to fix.

  • Eyeliner removal carries higher risk due to proximity to eyes. Must be done with an ophthalmic shield under the eyelid and by a very skilled technician.

How Many Sessions Are Needed?

  • Typically 3–10 sessions, spaced 6–8 weeks apart.

  • Factors affecting number of sessions:

    • Type and color of pigment

    • Depth of pigment

    • Skin type

    • Area being treated

    • Individual immune response

Benefits

  • Non-invasive

  • Gradual fading = allows correction or cover-up

  • Minimal downtime

  • Safe for all skin types when done correctly

  • Incomplete removal in some cases

  • Hair loss in eyebrow area (can be temporary)

Aftercare

  • Keep area clean and dry for 48 hours
