What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses concentrated light (laser) to target and destroy hair follicles, reducing hair growth over time. It’s popular for both women and men and can be performed almost anywhere on the body.

 How Does It Work?

  • The laser emits a beam of light that’s absorbed by melanin (pigment) in the hair.

  • This light energy is converted to heat, which damages the hair follicle and inhibits future growth.

  • The procedure is most effective during the active growth phase (anagen) of the hair cycle.

  • Multiple sessions are needed because not all hairs are in the same phase at once.

 Treatment Areas

Common areas include:

  • Face (upper lip, chin, jawline)

  • Underarms

  • Bikini/Brazilian

  • Legs

  • Arms

  • Back

  • Chest

  • Stomach

  •

Ideal Candidates

  • Works best on light skin with dark, coarse hair.

  • Newer lasers (e.g., Nd:YAG, diode) are safer and more effective for darker skin tones too.

  • Not effective on white, grey, light blonde, or red hair (no melanin to absorb laser).

How Many Sessions?

  • Typically 6–8 sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart.

  • Maintenance sessions: every 6–12 months, depending on regrowth.

Results Timeline:

Time Frame / What to Expect

  • 1st–3rd Hair grows back but thinner and slower

  • 4th–6th Noticeable reduction in regrowth and thickness

  • After full course -80–90% permanent reduction

  • Ongoing -Occasional fine or light regrowth (often doesn’t need removal)

Procedure – Step by Step

1. Consultation & Patch Test

  • A professional evaluates your skin and hair type.

  • A patch test is done 24–48 hours before to check for any adverse reaction.

2. Before Your Session

  • Shave the area 24 hours before.

  • Avoid sun exposure or tanning (fake or real) for 1–2 weeks prior.

  • Don’t wax, pluck, or epilate before treatment – the root must be intact.

3. During the Session

  • Goggles are worn to protect your eyes.

  • The laser handpiece is moved across the skin, delivering short pulses of light.

  • Most devices have a cooling tip or air system to reduce discomfort.

  • Sensation: snapping elastic band, tingling, or warm zaps.

4. After the Session

  • Skin may be slightly red or swollen (like a mild sunburn).

  • Aloe vera or cooling gel is applied.

Aftercare Instructions

  1. Avoid heat: No hot showers, sauna, gym, or sun exposure for 24–48 hours.

  2. SPF 30+: Essential if the treated area is exposed to sunlight.

  3. No active skincare: Avoid acids, retinoids, and harsh exfoliants for 2–3 days.

  4. Aloe vera: Apply to soothe redness or heat.

  5. Don’t wax or pluck: Only shave between sessions if needed.

  6. Gentle exfoliation: After 3 days, exfoliate 2–3 times/week to prevent ingrown hairs.

⚠️ Side Effects (Usually Mild)

  • Redness and mild swelling (like goosebumps)

  • Itching or temporary sensitivity

  • Hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation (rare, more common with darker skin or sun exposure)

  • Blisters or burns (very rare with experienced providers)

  • Ingrown hairs (less than with shaving or waxing, but still possible)
